I asked Beate from SCS's what I should do with my many SU markers, I was sent three sites with tutorials using markers. Thanks. This one was done by colouring my stamp & misting it with water to stamp my image. very pleased with the outcome.
Cardstock: Burgundy & White

Markers: Real Red,Burgundy & Old Olive

Love it. I have often wondered the same thing, I really like how your card turned out. Maybe it is time to look at my markers again.
